Finding a Truck Driver Job
Posted on Dec 26, 2011, 8:51 am Author: Truck King

After going through the process of finding a truck driving school, graduating, and obtaining a commercial driver’s license, a new truck driver will be faced with a whole new set of challenges. The next step will be finding a truck driver job that will fit all of his needs including wages, benefits, and home time. Getting a job that is worth working for a long period of time will be the new challenge.

There are several high paying truck driver jobs in the trucking industry. Keeping your record clean and sorting through all the bad information that you will be fed from other truck drivers, many with no intelligence, will be the hard part moving forward. A new truck driver needs to stay positive and be ambitious to advance, blocking out all the negative info, so they will achieve quickly and become a success.

The trucking industry has several million jobs but nowhere close to that many good truck driver jobs. Many drivers get caught up in an indentured servitude type of work environment while working off the cost of their CDL training. In many cases they will be for working for several years after they complete truck driving school to pay for their training. Most of these starter companies are less than desirable to work for so many drivers will be ready to move on as soon as possible.

A new truck driver needs only work for a month or so before he will start to get an idea about what is most important to him or her when looking for a new truck driver job. A good idea would be to make a list of pros and cons listing about five things each. List in order the top five things that are most important such as home time or pay. It may be no loading or unloading a trailer. Some drivers just want a fast truck while other drivers prefer to never have to drive in New York or the east coast. Once you have your list made you will have the first 5 questions that you will be asking any future trucking company as you investigate getting a better truck driver job.

Trucking companies have a history of saying one thing and doing another. Be cautious of verbal promises and make sure it is in writing if it is something that is important to you. Always look for some trucking company review sites and find out what the experiences have been for other truck drivers who have worked for any particular company before jumping on board blindly. There are some really good truck driver jobs in the trucking industry but to get one you will have to do your homework and put forth the effort to make it happen.
